Biography

He was born in 1985 in Moldova. In 2006, he graduated from the Ștefan Neaga Music College in Chișinău with a degree in Choral Conducting, after which he studied at the Vocal Department of the St. Petersburg State N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory.

He made his stage debut at the Conservatory's Opera and Ballet Theatre in the title role of Pyotr Tchaikovsky's opera Eugene Onegin.

From 2010 to 2012, he was a soloist with the Mikhailovsky Theatre, where he performed the following roles: Belcore in L'elisir d'amore, Schaunard in La Bohème, Robert in Iolanta, the Prince in Cinderella by Asafiev, Silvano in Un ballo in maschera, the Baron in La traviata, the Officer in La Juive by Halévy, and Dancaïre in Carmen (in concert performance).

In 2012, he was accepted into the Bolshoi Theatre's Young Artists Opera Program. In 2013, he debuted at the Bolshoi Theatre in the role of Marcello (La Bohème), later performing the role of Falke in Johann Strauss's operetta Die Fledermaus.

From 2014 to 2019, he was a permanent soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre opera company. On the Bolshoi stage, he sang the roles of Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), the Lamplighter (The Story of Kai and Gerda), Count Almaviva (The Marriage of Figaro), Dancaïre (Carmen), Robert (Iolanta), the Venetian Merchant (Sadko), and the title role in Eugene Onegin.

In 2018, the singer made his American debut at the Washington National Opera (role of Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia). In 2019, he debuted at the Metropolitan Opera in the role of Schaunard (La Bohème).

In Europe, he has performed at the Bavarian State Opera, the Paris Opera, the Icelandic Opera, Berlin's Staatsoper Unter den Linden and Deutsche Oper, Dresden's Semperoper, the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, and the Glyndebourne Festival. At these theatres, he has performed the roles of Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Belcore (L'elisir d'amore), Marcello (La Bohème), Don Alvaro (Il viaggio a Reims), Robert (Iolanta), Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Dr. Malatesta (Don Pasquale), and others.
